HOW DO I BECOME A GENIUS?

Follow these easy steps! The Genius Award requirements work alongside Hussian's Admissions process with some extra requirements so some of the steps you many have already started.

Let's take a look and then go through in detail:

  1. Fill out the form below!
  2. Submit 3 Creative works.
  3. Submit a 500-word essay.
  4. Submit a transcript showing a 3.0 GPA (Grade Point Average) or above.
  5. Provideone (1) recommendation letter.
  6. Complete the Admissions Process.
WHAT ARE THE 3 CREATIVE WORKS?

1 Traditional Rendering Piece

Please submit 1 photo (JPG or PNG file type) of a piece of work you rendered using traditional methods. Traditional media include graphite, paint, pastel, or conté on paper or canvas. There are no size restrictions.

1 Digital Design Piece

Please submit 1 piece of design work your created. Examples of possible design pieces like a web page layout, a poster, a logo, a magazine Spread, etc.

If you do not have design software, there are free options, for example: canva.com or adobespark.com.

1 Alternative Logo Design for the Genius Award

Please create an alternative logo for the Genius Award Scholarship. This can be done digitally or traditionally. There are no size or media restrictions.

ESSAY

Please write a 500-word essay on the following topic:

  • How does your love of art and future career correlate to your prior personal experiences?

Your essay should be checked for spelling and grammar errors prior to submission.

SUBMIT A HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT

To be eligible for the Genius Award Scholarship students must provide a transcript with a 3.0 GPA or above. Because students have not graduated as of the Genius Award submission deadline of May 1st students are asked to submit an “Unofficial” Transcript.

Remember, a transcript is a one-page summary of your academic record, including all high school courses completed or in progress. As most students will still be in the process of graduating, transcripts that are requested are considered “Unofficial.” Even though the transcript is unofficial we do consider students on track to graduate with a 3.0 GPA or higher to be eligible to submit for the Genius Award.

NOTE: High School graduates will still need to provide an Official Transcript be sent to Hussian College. That transcript is considered an “Official” Transcript.

SUBMIT A RECOMMENDATION LETTER

A letter of recommendation needs to be submitted and must come from either an art teacher or an individual that has served as a guide/mentor through the student's artistic journey.

WHAT'S NEXT?

Continue and complete Hussian's Admissions Process and meet the requirements deadline of May 1st to be considered eligible.

WHEN WILL THE WINNER BE ANNOUNCED?

The finalists will be contacted via email before May 15th.

The finalists will take part in a virtual interview with a Genius Award Panel. These interviews give us a chance to get to know you better and discuss your Alternative Genius Award Scholarship logo design. Other potential topics we may discuss with students are how they will positively represent Hussian College as a Genius Award recipient, where they envision themselves after graduating from Hussian College, their other submitted art pieces, and what they think is special about Hussian College.

The winner will be chosen prior to May 15th.

THE PRIZE

The Grand Prize Winner of the Contest (the “Winner”) will receive:

Full-tuition Scholarship to attend Hussian College.

No cash or other prize substitution is permitted. The prize is nontransferable. All prize-related expenses are the sole responsibility of the winner. The winner will be notified within 15 days of the contest end - May 1st. Prizes must be claimed within 30 days of the winner being notified or the prize is voiced and given to the runner-up winner.

FAQ

What are the criteria, how will my application be chosen?

The award will be given to the one student, who in the estimation of the committee shows exceptional creativity, is unique and who shows superior promise for the future achievement.

Do I have to be a high school student, a U.S. citizen, live in Philadelphia?

Anyone who has completed the high school diploma and can show proof of graduation is eligible, however special emphasis is placed upon the traditional incoming freshman profile for the College.

After I win the award what are my responsibilities?

While at Hussian, you must maintain a 3.0 GPA, continue to matriculate, and complete your Bachelor of Fine Arts degree within 4 years. You will be called upon by the College to participate in several events and are expected to serve as an Ambassador.

Will I have to pay the money back?

No, this is the equivalent of a cash award and in recognition of your talent, the college waives all its fees.
